Journey with Emily as she guides you through the world of the 5 elements - a road map to greater overall health.
This is a five part course for new comers, seasoned practitioners and the curious. The intention is to enhance self-awareness, practice daily mindfulness and share wellness techniques and tools to help you find greater harmony in daily life.
What is the 5 elements theory?
According to ancient Vedic philosophies - our body, minds, lives, relationships (and everything that exists) are unique compositions of the pancha maha bhutas – the 5 elements.
The 5 elements of Vedic traditions are:
Earth, Water, Fire, Air & Ether.
Even the most complex of theories can be broken down in to these 5 elemental components. When balanced (according to the unique constitution of the person, place or thing) overall wellness and health is experienced. This means for example- as individuals we create healthy, sustainable relationships with ourselves, others and life.
It is said that when these elements are disturbed (as naturally they will be due to the ever changing nature of life) then dis-ease begins.
According to Ayurveda (the oldest system of health and wellness) if initial disturbance is not brought back in to a more stable place then pain and suffering arrives on a physical and emotional level: stress, destructive behaviours and relationships, burn out etc.
What to Expect:
• Discover more about your state of inner health through the lens of the 5 elements;
• Learn to tools to become more present and aware of how you feel in body and mind;
• Each week is dedicated to one of the 5 elements, highlighting it’s presence in the body, mind and the part it plays in health and daily life, relationships. The harmonious and disturbed presence of each element will also be discussed
• TAKE AWAYs to bring balance to each element:
o Inspiring home practices and techniques: breath-work tools; yoga asana/movement; meditation, repetitive sound (mantra), mudras (hand gestures);
o Tips on self care, diet, daily routine, lifestyle;
• Be open to self –discovery through journaling and/or sharing.
Please note- there will be a short physical practice each session combined with interactive discussion on the element of the week. Please bring a pen and paper for notes/journaling.
